Prayer for Religious Freedom 2012

Washington, DC - Let us join the nation as we pray for the protection of religious freedom and conscience in light of the current dabate in the Supreme Court over health care and the government's right to mandate our health care options.

The U.S. Council of Bishops have called for a day of prayer so that our religious freedom and conscience protection may be ensured by the Supreme Court and the Judicial Branch of our government. May all policies related to our health care and all other areas of our life reflect our right to choose and live according to the dictates of our conscience and belief in God.

Lord, through you, with you and in you all things are possible. Let your truth prevail and our constitutional rights be affirmed as we defend our religious freedom and seek the protection of our right of conscience.

Lord, open all hearts to dialogue and bring unity where there is division so that all may seek the common good according to your truth.

Lord, we pray for all nations and peoples that they may have religious freedom and be guaranteed basic human rights now and always.

Lord, we pray for our children and future generations that their religious freedom will be secure as they live as a nation, under God with liberty and justice for all.

Alexandra Pew, Age 18, Ann Arbor

EAST LANSING, Mich. - A high school student was critically injured after accidentally falling from a sixth-floor window while playing a game of catch at a Michigan State University dorm, authorities said Monday.

The 18-year-old from Ann Arbor crashed through the glass and fell from the 6th floor window on Sunday morning at 3 a.m. She was taken to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing for treatment, police said.

The student, Alexandra Pew, was in critical condition Monday, hospital spokesman John Foren said. Details about her injuries weren't immediately released.

Peter Fayroian, who heads Greenhills School where Pew is a senior, said faculty and students discussed the accident at an assembly on Monday morning and the school community is supporting Pew. He said her family told him they expect her to make a full recovery. "My goal is to shake her hand at commencement," Fayroian said.

Lord, protect all students as they prepare for Spring break and graduation. Send your healing love on all those suffering from accidents, especially Alexandra. Grant wisdom to students so that they may make prudent choices and bless them with the grace of living out their Divine destiny in your care. Dhaki, Age 13, The Sudan

The Sudan - Dhaki, age 13 was forced to marry a man almost twice her age. Dhaki and girls like her feel alone and abandoned. Yet in the political and violent culture of her country Dhaki is considered one of the lucky ones. Her country has one of the highest infant mortality rates, with massive starvation and death facing her country.

The United Nations is imploring the Sudan government to stop the killing of women and children and the blocking of humanitarian aid.
This natural disaster of drought, displaced populations and tribal genocide must stop. Humanitarian solutions must be found in the absence of political resolutions. Time is running out. Millions face starvation unless massive relief efforts are allowed to continue.

Lord, we ask you to bless all aid and relief efforts for the people of the Sudan. We pray for humanitarian solutions for all those in need inspite of their race, religion or political region. Lord, open hearts, plant love and respect where there was once hatred and division.

Lord, be the Light for children like Dhaki. May all children be allowed to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment, free from abuse and exploitation. We pray for unity and peace among nations so this crisis can be addressed in time. Lord may your abundant Mercy console your people and inspire those in authority to be generous and compassionate.

David Ng, Age 33, Calgary

Ghost Peak, Canada - Six skiers were skiing in between Ghost Peak and the peak of Mt. Cartier at an elevation of 2038 metres. Four skiers waited at the top while two descended. One of the two held up part of the way down while the other skied through cliffs and trees to a lower slope. It was the skier who held up higher on the slope who noticed the slide. He shouted "avalanche" and blew a whistle to alert the others.

After the avalanche stopped, the others were able to quickly locate and dig out victim David Ng, age 33. They began CPR and continued for 30 minutes before ending their attempt to revive him. They also called for help on a satellite phone immediately and were safely rescued.

Lord, grant eternal rest to all those who recently died unexpectedly, especially David Ng. Comfort all their family and friends with your unending Divine Mercy.

"Eternal Father, we offer you the body and blood, soul and divinity of your dear beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world."

Trooper Lowell Russell, Knoxville, TN

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The truck driver charged in an early morning wreck that sent a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper to the hospital in critical condition has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Reckless Endangerment.

Eric Dwayne Lewis, 32, reportedly told investigators he fell asleep at the wheel. No charges were filed against the passenger in the semi 57 year-old Cleotha Nickles.

The trooper, who was identified as Lowell Russell, was stopped alongside I-40 West near Gallaher View Rd., finishing up some paperwork following a traffic stop around 3:00 a.m. when the semi hit his cruiser from behind and caused it to burst into flames.

"Sgt. Russell is one of those people, you meet him, you remember him, he's a good guy," said Trooper Randall Martin. Sgt Martin worked with Trooper Lowell Russell for more than fourteen years.

"I think with any Officer you can see yourself in a similar position and that's disturbing especially when you know this could have been avoided," said Trooper Martin.

Lord we pray for a complete recovery for Trooper Lowell Russell. Comfort his family and friends with your miraculous mercy.

We also pray for the truck driver who caused this accident as he faces the consequences of his actions. May your mercy help all those involved to be your instruments of healing.

Lord, help us to be diligent while driving and praying. Other peoples' lives are in our hands.

Angel Babcock, Age 15 months

Henryville, IN - In the first five days of March an estimated 120 tornadoes were cited in the Midwest. With 59 known dead and hundreds injured, rescue teams begin clean up efforts with prayerful hearts and reverent memories.

But hope was rekindled when one little girl was found. Her rescue captured the hearts and hope of most people who were following the tornado tragedies. Fifteen-month-old Angel Babcock, who was orphaned and lost her two siblings in the Pekin tornado, seemed to be a shining light of hope when she was found injured but alive - and alone - in a field.

Her extended family stood watch over the tiny girl clinging to life in a nearby hospital. But the child succumbed to her injuries and died Sunday afternoon. She gave a name and an innocent face to the dozens of souls who perished last week in storms stretching from Alabama to Ohio.

Lord, eternal rest grant unto all those who died from natural disasters this week, especially Angel Babcock and her family. In your mercy hear and answer our prayers as we place all our trust in your Divine Providence and Protection. May your perfect will be done in all areas of our lives.
