6440 U.S. Service Members

Washington, DC - Memorial Day weekend is a time for everyone to remember all the service men and women, living and deceased who help keep our Country safe.

We especially remember the 6440 soldiers who died in Iraq and Afghanistan this year; 6,300 were male; 2899 were between the ages of twenty and twenty-four. 4058 served in the Army and 140 were female. The states who lost the largest number of service members were California and Texas.

Lord, be our troops' protection and guide. Grant them wisdom and courage beyond their years and anoint them as your favored Sons and Daughters. Give them a long life, make them blessed upon the earth and do not hand them over to the power of their enemies. We ask this through the intercession of the Holy Spirit now and always.

Lord, we pray for all those in military service who have died in Iraqi and Afganistan this year, especially the 6,440 men and women. Console their families and grant their loved ones eternal rest and the joy of living in your presence for all eternity. Amen

Aimee Copeland, Age 24, Carrollton, GA

Carrollton, GA - Despite the odds of survival being "slim to none," Aimee Copeland, the 24-year-old University of West Georgia graduate student battling a deadly flesh-eating virus, is showing signs of recovery and is still fighting to survive. Aimee received a gash on her leg while kayaking with friends.

Amiee's father, Andy Copeland, reported that Aimee has made great progress. "Yesterday, she had some setbacks. She was really on the ventilator 100 percent, but now she's only requiring 60 percent of the ventilator, and last night she moved her arms."

Copeland also said Aimee's digestive system is showing signs of improvement, which the doctors told him is an extremely good sign. Aimee has even started moving and opening her eyes, which are small miracles for the Copeland family.

Unfortunately, despite the improvements Aimee has made the past couple of days, Copeland said she still faces a big uphill battle.

The bacteria that attacked her has basically shut her capillaries down, Copeland explained. So it appears that because of the combination of the bacteria and medication shes taking, we'll probably have to remove her hands from her wrist, as well as her foot. It's something we'll have to get over, but it's something we're going to miss.

Were really just glad to have her alive, because she has such a beautiful mind, Copeland added.

Lord, we pray for continued healing of Aimee. May the doctors and nurses, who attend her, reverse her condition and find a cure for the fleshing eating bacteria that is threatening her life. May Aimee's treatment be used to help others with like conditions. Give Aimee and her family the grace they need to persevere and trust in your mercy. "For the sake of your sorrowful passion, have mercy on Aimee and on the whole world. .."

Kaylon Smith. Age 16, Rosendale, New York

ROSENDALE, N.Y. A 16-year-old girl who was riding a four-wheeler Sunday evening when a dirt biker collided with her remained in critical condition with a fractured skull and bruising on the brain, her father said Monday night.

State police said their investigation revealed that Paul Harper, 40, was operating a Honda dirt bike on a private trail off Italiana Road and collided with the Yamaha ATV driven by the girl at about 7 p.m. Sunday.

But Bill Smith said his daughter, Kaylon Smith, a junior at Kingston High School, was putting around in the yard on a quad when the incident occurred.

She was visiting her father for the weekend at the home of a family friend, Smith said. He said she lives in Kingston with her mother.

Kaylon was driving around the backyard of the house on a four-wheeler, he said. Because she was just putting around, she didnt have a helmet.

Smith said the biker came flying out of the woods into the yard and just blindsided her.

He was going fast. He was airborne when he hit her. He hit her on the left side of her head, Smith said.

He said he has remained by the girls side at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

We join Bill Smith and all the family and friends in the Kingston area, who are praying for the recovery of Kaylon Smith. We pray for the doctors and nurses who attend her for wisdom, healing and insight in her treatment.

We also pray for Paul Harper, whose careless behavior has caused great injury. Lord, through your mercy and love grant healing and conversion of manners for Paul. Lord, turn this circumstance into good through your miraculous divine presence. Amen
