Recovery Efforts in the Mid-West

Spring 2013 - The Spring of 2013 will long be remembered as a time of trial and recovery for all those who live in the Mid-West. To share our continued heartfelt prayers and love, we are including John Michael Talbots' letter on behalf of his community, the Brothers and Sisters of Charity to all those in the Mid-West, who are recovering from natural disasters.

"Brothers and Sisters,

I am watching the Weather Channel on television concerning the outbreak of severe storms and tornados on a daily basis across especially the middle west of the United States. Being raised in Oklahoma and Indiana I am acutely sensitive to the dangers of the storm. My heart broke with the recent news of the devastating tornado in Moore Oklahoma. And I continue to be sensitive to further outbreaks with each ensuing day.

I take this opportunity to express my love and support for all of those who live in the affected areas all over the US and who have loved and supported my JMT ministry and the Brothers and Sisters of Charity throughout the years. You're in my personal heartfelt prayers, and in the prayers of both the monastic and domestic expressions of our community for those surviving past storms, and for those facing them in the days and weeks ahead."

In Jesus,

John Michael Talbot
Founder, and Spiritual Father
The Brothers and Sisters of Charity at Little Portion Hermitage"

Let us pray for healing and recovery throughout the world from all those effected by man-made and natural disasters during the Corpus Christi Holy Hour recommended by Pope Francis on Sunday June 2nd.

A 34 Year-old Cyclist in Montreal

Montreal, Cananda - A 34-year-old cyclist is in critical condition after she collided with a truck in Montreal's RosemontLa Petite-Patrie borough this morning.

Police said the incident happened near the intersection of Molson and Masson streets.

According to Montreal police Const. Danny Richer, two trucks were turning right on a green light before the collision occured.

"One possibility is that the driver may have not seen the cyclist when he made that right turn," Richer said.

Both of the drivers were treated for shock.

Montreal police are on the scene investigating.

Lord, we pray for this young woman cyclist in critical condition and all those suffering from biking accidents. Grant them healing and bless the doctors and nurses who attend them.

Lord, keep all cyclists safe as we enter summer vacation time. Anoint them with extraordinary wisdom and your providential care while they are on the highway.

Good Saint Christopher, pray for all those who travel this day. Keep them safe and guide them as they journey. May they reach their destinations safely. Amen

Moore Oklahoma Victims and Survivors

Moore, Oklahoma - A huge tornado ripped through the city of Moore, yesterday afternoon, leveling homes, schools and other structures in its path. Although there have been conflicting reports of the official death toll, authorities in the state medical examiner's office say at least 24 people have died, nine of them children.

An official evaluation of the tornado's strength has not yet been determined, but meteorologists say yesterday's storm will be at least an EF-4 or possibly an EF-5 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. A tornado's ranking on the EF-scale is based on wind speeds and associated damage. An EF-0 rating is reserved for minor damage, while an EF-5 is considered the most severe, with winds likely more than 200 miles per hour (322 kilometers per hour).

A tornado can cause different levels of damage along its path, perhaps starting as an EF-2 tornado, then strengthening to an EF-4 later in its life cycle.

Lord, we lift up all those involved in the Moore Oklahoma tornado, both living and deceased. Lord, accept the dead into your loving arms and comfort the living that they may know you are with them in this desparate hour of need. Remember all those who have been victims of natural disasters in the past. Help them to be united with you and turn their losses into good for others.

Lord help us with what we can not understand in this life. Please Lord, use all that we experience for the good of souls. Helps us to draw closer to you for your eternal wisdom and care as we place our trust in you. Amen

Lord, we honor the gift of life you have given us, which is so precious. Help us to be merciful and champions of life for all nations and peoples. May you be everywhere and always glorified as we place our trust in you and your Divine Providence. Amen

Sona Mehring CaringBridge Founder

New York, New York - Please join us as we pray for Sona Mehring the founder of the worlds largest online support network, CaringBridge, and people like her. Sona shared recently that the inspiration for the social tool CaringBridge was born from grief.

In her new book "Hope Conquers All", Sona reveals the death of a newborn was the catalyst for the birth of her organization, CaringBridge, which enables people to share information online during any kind of health event, thus streamlining the efforts of communicating to multiple family members and friends. Through her efforts Sona has helped thousands of people to share and receive the support they need when dealing with critical health and family issues. Sona is a great example on how to turn grief into good for others.

Lord, we thank you for the good times and the bad; the times of joy and the times of grief; in all times and in every way we give you thanks. Often it is our grief and trials that can be the greatest opportunity to grow closer to you and to one another. Love has no bounds and only keeps growing if we give it away. We thank you Lord for Sona and all souls who turn tragedy to good by choosing to do the loving thing. Help us to grow in faith, hope and love as we celebrate Pentecost and the gift of your Holy Spirit in our lives.

"Come Holy Ghost, Creator blest and in our hearts take up thy rest. Come with thy grace and heavenly aid to fill the hearts which thous hast made...to fill the hearts which thou hast made."

Mimi Gallagher Lavery and Family

Mother's Day 2013 - Each Mother's Day we remember, not only our Mothers but all those who have nurtured us and contributed to our growth and development over the years. We celebrate every good person who has been our guardian angel and/or nurturing friend.

Mimi Lavery, recently deceased, is such a person. She has been so caring, kind and good to so many; it is hard to count the number of people she has helped over the years. She is remembered for her many acts of kindness, good will and genuine love for people. Mimi was everyones Mom and a sweet wonderful person, who will be sorely missed. Her goodness lives on in her children and family. She is forever part of us and we carry her with us, close to our hearts.

Mimi, pray for us so that when we are heaven bound we may meet again. We will look for you in the "angel" section close to our Blessed Mother Mary. Put in a good word for us. You remind us that we are never separated from those we love and all that is good and loving never dies, but rather multiplies in those we love.

Hail Mary, our Blessed Mother and guide, bless all Mothers, living and deceased, with abundant graces and choice gifts of the Holy Spirit. Help us to celebrate life and be grateful every moment for the gifts God has given us, especially our Mothers, so near and dear to our hearts. May all they do give glory to God now and forever. Amen

Albert Robinson, Age 62 and His Passengers

Ogdensburg, NY - One of the survivors of Fridays fatal car accident outside of Ogdensburg has been released from the hospital, while the other remains in critical condition in SUNY Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse.

State police said Monday that Hilmar M. Juell, 33, of Hammond, had been sent home.

Mr. Juell was driving a Dodge Caravan south on Route 37 near the Stonefence Resort and Motel at roughly 10 a.m. when his vehicle was struck head-on by a Chevy Cruze sedan heading the opposite direction. State police did not release information on the nature of his injuries and the hospital where he was treated.

State police said the Cruze, driven by Albert Robinson Sr., 62, of Brownville, suddenly swerved into the other lane, causing the accident.

Mr. Robinson, his wife, Georgia Robinson, 58, and passenger Kristine K. Fitchette Bell, 51, of Dexter, died of massive trauma.

Mr. Robinson did have health issues, state police Investigator Christopher M. Nye said, but he didnt want to speculate on whether a medical condition caused Mr. Robinson to swerve into oncoming traffic.

I dont know if well ever know what caused the crash, he said.

St. Lawrence County Coroner Russell B. Lawrence III said Friday that an autopsy conducted by forensic pathologist Dr. Samuel A. Livingstone concluded that Mr. Robinson may have suffered from cardiac arrhythmia, a condition that causes abnormal heart rhythms.

Susan J. Wagoner, 52, from Chaumont, was also a passenger in the Cruze but survived and is in critical condition.

Lord, receive these souls into your tender loving care and remember the sick, the poor and the dying. May your perpetual light shine upon them.
